King’s Olympic Wrestling Club in Leicester is celebrating a new milestone in youth leadership, thanks to a generous grant from the Oakland Foundation.
Dante, a dedicated club member, has just completed his Level 1 coaching qualification and is ready to inspire the next generation of wrestlers. This achievement marks the first step in the club’s plan to train two young coaches, creating more opportunities for local youngsters to thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
Speaking on behalf of the club, Senior Safeguarding Officer and International Sports Journalist Tarj (Tarjinder Kaur-D’Silva) said: “The Oakland Foundation’s team was incredibly responsive and supportive throughout the grant process and their funding has been vital to our Safe Space initiative, and we’re deeply grateful for their partnership.”
King’s Olympic Wrestling Club offers freestyle wrestling training seven days a week, with sessions for everyone from beginners to elite athletes. Accredited by the British Wrestling Association, the club’s coaches are champions at national and European levels.
The Oakland Foundation, a children’s charity, is dedicated to helping under-16s and their families through projects focused on education, health, nutrition, and sport, ensuring every child, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, has the chance to shine.
Oakland Foundation Trustee and Grant Application Coordinator Mark Williams commented: “I was really impressed with the diversity of ages and genders at the club. Dante has completed his coaching course and started working with young people which is a fantastic result for everyone involved.”
With Dante now coaching, the club is already preparing to train its next young leader, thanks to continued support from the Oakland Foundation.
